Discord Banner Size

A Discord profile banner is 680x240 and a server banner is 960x540. Drop any image into the free resizer below and it crops to the exact size Discord asks for.

The right Discord banner size depends on which slot you are filling, and each one carries its own documented figure. The banner on your main profile needs a minimum of 680x240. A per-server profile banner needs 600x240. A server banner needs at least 960x540 at a 16:9 ratio, and Discord will also take a 1920x1080 file and resize it down for you.

Every one of those figures is a minimum, so a larger file at the same ratio works.

How to Resize an Image to Discord Banner Size

Four steps from any image to a file Discord accepts

  1. 1

Pick the banner slot you are filling

Choose the profile banner at 680x240, the per-server profile banner at 600x240, or the server banner at 960x540 or 1920x1080. The crop frame switches to that shape, so you are framing the real thing rather than guessing.
  2. 2

    Drop in your image

Drag a file onto the frame, click it to browse, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V. The file is read straight into the page, so nothing is uploaded anywhere.
  3. 3

    Frame the crop

Zoom and drag until the part you want sits inside the frame. On a server banner, keep the marked band along the top clear, because Discord prints your server name over it.
  4. 4

Download it and upload it to Discord

Export as PNG or JPG at the exact pixel size. Upload it in your Discord profile settings for a profile banner, or in Server Settings for a server banner.

Every Discord Banner Size

Five slots, five documented figures. The ratio column is what a crop has to match, and the last column is the gate Discord puts in front of the upload.

SlotSizeAspect ratioWhat it needs

Per-server profile banner600x2405:2Nitro
Server banner960x54016:9Boost Level 2
Server banner HD1920x108016:9Boost Level 2
Server invite background1920x108016:9Boost Level 1

The server invite background is the same 1920x1080 export as the HD server banner, so one file covers both slots. Discord takes JPG and PNG there and will not accept a GIF.

The avatar is a separate job with its own number. The Discord PFP size page crops to a square and shows you the circle Discord masks it into.

Why the Profile Banner Has Two Sizes

The two profile numbers are not a typo. A Discord user profile has two banner features rather than one, and they carry different numbers.

The banner on your main account is documented under Discord's Custom Profiles article. It states that banners must be PNG, JPG, or animated GIF files under 10MB, with minimum dimensions of 680x240 pixels.

A per-server profile is a separate feature with its own article. Discord's Per-Server Profiles article gives a recommended minimum of 600x240, with the same 10MB cap and the same three file types.

Both banners are Nitro perks, so most people meet the 680x240 figure first. If you want one file for both, export at 680x240. It clears the larger of the two minimums, which means the same image works in either slot.

Keep the Top 48 Pixels Clear

Discord's server banner guidelines ask you to keep the top 48px of the file fairly simple and free of any busy imagery. Your server name renders over that strip, so detail up there has to share the space with it.

The resizer draws that band on the preview, so you can see what the name will cover before you export. The 48px figure is measured on a 960x540 file. Export at 1920x1080 instead and the band scales with the file, which puts the top 96 pixels under the name.

The same guidelines ask you to avoid an image or GIF with a logo or text in it, and to pick something that represents your game or brand. A logo in the artwork ends up competing with the server name for the same corner.
