Restrict Your Discord Giveaway to the Countries Your Prize Can Reach

Pick the countries once in the giveaway builder, and the rule enforces itself. The entry page states it up front, block mode stops ineligible entries at the door, and the winner draw only ever lands on an eligible entrant.

Geo targeting is a per-giveaway country rule that decides who can enter your Discord giveaway and who can win it. The list works as an allowlist, where only the countries you name are eligible, or a blocklist, where everyone except those countries is. The mode decides how firmly it applies. Block turns ineligible visitors away at the entry page. Warn lets anyone enter and keeps ineligible entries out of the winner draw.

The country comes from the entrant's connection at the moment they enter, the same country-level signal every website receives. Nothing is read from Discord, and no precise location is involved, just a two-letter country code. The rule is also fail-open by design. An entrant whose country cannot be determined is never blocked, so a flaky connection can never lock an eligible member out.

Alongside the rule, country analytics show where your entrants come from. A distribution chart sits on each giveaway's analytics tab, and the server-wide dashboard renders an interactive 3D globe lit by entry density. The charts are aggregate by design and stay hidden until at least 10 people have entered, so no single entrant is ever identifiable from them. On the Enterprise plan you can also see each individual participant's detected country, a deliberately restricted view meant for compliance work like sanctions screening and prize-law checks.

How It Works

From a country list in the builder to a winner your prize can reach

  1. 1

Pick the countries in the builder

In the security section of the giveaway builder, build the list either way around: an allowlist names the only eligible countries, a blocklist names the excluded ones and leaves the rest of the world open. Then pick the mode. Block turns ineligible visitors away at the entry page. Warn lets everyone enter and keeps ineligible entries out of the winner draw.

The rule is part of the giveaway's setup like any other option, so giveaway templates carry it, and a recurring giveaway applies it to every run without you touching it again.

  2. 2

The entry page states the rule up front

Everyone sees the rule before they spend time on a task. In block mode, an ineligible visitor meets a clear wall the moment the page loads, naming their detected country and the giveaway's country rule. In warn mode, a banner sits above the tasks from the first screen, telling them they can participate but cannot win.

The entry page's terms also state the country rule for every visitor, restricted or not, naming the eligible countries on an allowlist and the excluded ones on a blocklist, so the giveaway's eligibility is public and identical for everyone.

  3. 3

Enforcement runs at entry and at the draw

The wall and the banner are disclosure. The enforcement is server-side. Block mode refuses an ineligible submission outright, and warn mode records the entry but excludes it when winners are drawn. Rerolls apply the same exclusion, so an ineligible entry can never win through a second draw either. An entrant whose country cannot be determined stays eligible. The rule fails open rather than lock an eligible member out.

If a task collects a country and someone's answer contradicts the country their connection shows, the entry is flagged for your review, one of the signals alt account and bot detection folds into each entry's fraud check.

  4. 4

Country analytics show where entrants come from

Every giveaway's analytics tab charts its entries by country, and the server-wide dashboard renders the same data as an interactive globe, the one sampled below. Both are aggregate views, and both stay hidden until at least 10 people have entered, so a near-empty giveaway can never point a count at one person.

Seeing an individual participant's detected country is a separate, deliberately restricted capability on the Enterprise plan, meant for compliance work like sanctions screening and prize-law checks.

Setups This Enables

The same rule, pointed three ways

A merch drop that ships where you ship

Physical prize, US and Canada only: an allowlist of those two countries in block mode. Everyone who reaches the tasks can receive the prize, and the shipping question is settled before the draw instead of after it.

A worldwide promo with a regional prize

Warn mode with your eligible countries allowlisted. The whole world can enter, join your server, and share the giveaway, while the draw stays inside the countries your prize can reach.

A standing compliance blocklist

A blocklist of the countries your legal or sanctions review excludes, saved in a template. Every giveaway built from it, including scheduled and recurring runs, applies the same exclusions without anyone re-checking a list.

Prize Eligibility Should Enforce Itself

What a country rule changes for shipping, region locks, and prize law

Most prizes have a geography. Physical merch has shipping costs and customs, gift cards are region-locked, and sweepstakes law differs enough by country that many brands keep a standing exclusion list. The eligibility line exists either way. The only question is whether a rule enforces it or a line of fine print nobody reads.

Enforcing it by hand means noticing the problem after the draw, when the winner turns out to live somewhere the prize cannot go, and a public reroll makes the giveaway look arbitrary. With the rule in the giveaway itself, the draw only ever lands on someone eligible, and everyone else knew where they stood from the entry page.

Warn mode keeps the growth case intact. A giveaway is also a promotion, so walling off most of the planet costs reach. Letting anyone enter, join your server, and complete tasks while the draw stays inside your eligible countries keeps the worldwide amplification, and still lands the prize somewhere you can ship it.
